There is a building consensus that "success" in Iraq, whatever that might be, is an elusive target. Many retired generals and intelligence officers have confirmed that we went to war under false pretenses. However, it really doesn't do us much good to put our protest energy into that side of the issue. The question we should be asking is how do we extricate ourselves while saving face AND keeping Iraq from sliding into a full-blown civil war? What is our moral obligation to Iraq? What actions should voters and anti-war protestors be taking to affect the best possible outcome? President Bush and the war profiteers would do well to learn from history - wars against insurgents, that is, militias defending their country, are never defeated, and Empires inevitably fall. We cannot and should not maintain forces in Iraq. It's been four years too long, billions of dollars too much, and too many dead and injured. We need to bring the troops home, but we also need to be responsible world citizens and do our best to clean up and/or contain the mess we've made of a once prosperous country. Read, learn, comment, take action. Write, call, email any and all media outlets and demand better coverage of the war in Iraq.

After destroying TV and radio, the mega-media corporations want to become gatekeepers to the Internet. They're scheming to control what content you can view and which services you can use online.
Streaming video, Internet phones, podcasting and online games are the future of the Internet. But companies like Verizon, AT&T and Comcast want Congress to let them deliver only their products at super high speeds ... while sticking the rest of us in the slow lane.
This predatory scheme would be a dead end for independent voices and Internet innovators: bloggers, producers, and any new channels and services that might compete with the conglomerates.
The only way to stop them is to raise hell right now:
Tell the CEOs, "Hands Off Our Internet."
The devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina has been simply shocking. Regrettably, much of the damage may have been preventable. Levees weren't upgraded, wetlands were filled, and disaster mitigation funding cut to a minimum. President Bush was on extended vacation and plaintively noted that "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees" -- even though this was blatantly false.
